Ethereum casino deposit checklist: five readings before ether leaves the wallet

A deposit in ether has no undo, so the checking happens before the send. Five readings cover it, and the fee is the one most people skip.

Bars of an uneven pattern on a flat baseline

Is the wallet on the network the cashier names?

Read the network name in the cashier, then the one on the wallet's confirmation screen. They have to say the same thing. If the cashier offers more than one route, the choice is made here and nowhere later.

Does the wallet hold enough for the fee?

The fee comes out of the balance on top of the amount. A wallet holding exactly the amount you mean to send will refuse or reduce it. On a Layer 2 the ether for the fee must be on that Layer 2, and on BNB Smart Chain the fee is paid in BNB.

Is the estimate sensible?

The wallet shows an estimate before it signs. A plain send uses 21,000 units of gas, so the estimate is that times the current price, and it should look like an ordinary figure for the moment. If it looks high, the network is busy, and the price can fall back within minutes. Waiting is allowed. The payments page explains why.

Is the amount worth the fixed cost?

Gas does not scale with the amount. On a small deposit it is a large share, and splitting one deposit into three triples it. Decide the size of the deposit with the fee beside it, not after.

Did the address come from the live cashier?

Copy it from the screen in front of you, paste it, and compare the first and last characters. An address from a note, a message or an earlier visit is not the cashier's current one.

Why the readings come in this order

The order is deliberate. Network and address are fixed by the cashier, so a mismatch there is an error to catch. Balance and estimate are properties of the wallet and the moment, so they come next. The size of the amount is a decision, and it comes last because it is the only reading that depends on all the others: once the network, the estimate and the balance are known, the fixed cost has a number, and the amount can be weighed against it.

Skipping to the amount first is how a fee ends up larger than the thing it was paid to move.

What a good estimate looks like

There is no universal good number. A good estimate is one that sits in the usual band for that network at that time, which a look at an explorer's gas tracker, or at a recent transfer of your own, will show. If the wallet offers slow, normal and fast, slow is a legitimate choice for a deposit that is not urgent, because the only cost of slow is time.

Quick answers

Should I send a small test amount first? It is a common habit, but each transfer pays its own full fee, so a test costs a second fee. Whether it is worth it depends on the size of the real deposit.
Can I cancel an ETH deposit after sending? Not once it is included in a block. Before that, a waiting transfer can sometimes be replaced from the wallet.
